Attorney Brian Finnerty has been representing injured clients for over thirty years. He has successfully resolved countless personal injury matters including cases arising from motor vehicle accidents, pedestrian injuries, unsafe premises, medical malpractice, dangerous products, and wrongful death. Brian has also represented many insurance company policyholders in such cases. Extensive experience “on both sides of the aisle” has given him unique insight into insurance company practices and how insurers calculate the value of a given claim. Not surprisingly, these appraisals are often inadequate, not taking full account of the harm suffered. It is Brian’s job to take on the insurance companies and fight hard for the full compensation each client deserves.
Brian began working for his father, noted trial lawyer John F. Finnerty, while attending law school in the early 1980’s, getting a jump start on the claims and litigation process. Attorney Finnerty, a World War II veteran often referred to as “one of the Deans of the Massachusetts Bar”, was depicted by actor James Mason in the celebrated 1982 film, “The Verdict”, set in Boston and also starring Paul Newman. The movie was based on one of Mr. Finnerty’s medical malpractice defense cases in which he represented the Archdiocese of Boston, and followed the best-selling novel by Barry Reed. This is just one of the firm’s many noteworthy cases over the years.
Before attending law school, Brian was employed as a Deputy Assistant Clerk at the Middlesex Superior Court in Cambridge, where he learned the inner workings of the Massachusetts court system and served as courtroom clerk during some notable trials, including the infamous King Arthur’s police murder case. After obtaining his Juris Doctor degree and passing the bar exam, he was quickly thrown to the wolves, routinely appearing in Court, taking on new cases, and taking cases to trial.
Following his father’s passing in 1994, Attorney Finnerty carried on the firm in Boston as senior partner and trial counsel, where he continued to represent both individual and corporate clients. Since 2008, he has owned Finnerty Law Office, serving clients throughout Massachusetts and New England.
Brian loves helping people, and strives to achieve only the best results for his clients.
Attorney Finnerty is proud to maintain a Martindale-Hubbell rating of “Distinguished” and an Avvo rating of “Superb”.
